What is a chord progression
A progression is a sequence of chords that gives shape to a song. Roman numerals show the degree of the scale: upper case for major chords (I, IV, V), lower case for minor chords (ii, iii, vi), with the ° symbol for diminished chords and ø for half-diminished ones. Sevenths (7, maj7, m7) and sixths (6, m6) add a fourth note and colour to the chord; add2 adds the second, while sus2 and sus4 put it in place of the third. The same pattern works in every key: change the key and the progression transposes itself.
